Teak.

TEAK (Tectona grandis):

The A.P.F.D.C. has raised Teak Plantations by converting the mature and over mature Eucalyptus seed origin plantations especially in high rain fall and productive areas like Rajahmundry and Eluru during the period from 2001-02 to 2016-17.  Accordingly, 824.70 ha of Teak plantations have been raised so far.

Due to its long gestation period, Teak planting was restricted to limited extent in high rainfall zone area of Maredumilli of Rajahmundry division besides maintenance of the old Teak plantations already raised.

Teak was raised in block planting as well as line planting along the inspection paths and peripheries of Eucalyptus and Bamboo plantations in a single or multiple rows.  The teak stumps / bag plants which are well grown and pest resistant are used for planting. The planting is done on receipt of soaking rains at an espacement of 2M x 2M in 30cm cube pits / crow bar holes based on planting stock duly treating the stumps / bag plants as the case may be.

DETAILS OF TEAK PLANTATIONS RAISED DIVISION WISE AND YEAR-WISE

The survivals in the Teak plantations raised during 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2003 are ranging from 65% to 80% and in the plantations raised from 2012 to 2016, it is ranging from 65 to 90% on an average.  Thinnings are carried out at 7^th year mechanically and at 14^th, 21^st  & 32^nd year, silvicultural thinning are done.  The rotation fixed for teak is 50 years.  Since the planting was started in 2000, none of the plantations have attained rotation age.
